Interior design trends are like clothes, they cycle in and out regularly. I’m sure you’ve seen the resurgence of cane furniture, which reminds me of the return of oh, I don’t know, the scrunchy? Caning is the open-weave graphic treatment of rattan that you’ll recognize from mid-century modern dining chairs and all the way back to 19th century antique settees. Does it conjure images of broken pieces? I don’t blame ya; I, too, have a pair of vintage cane chairs and one of them has a “sensitive” spot. I appreciate this trend for it’s way to incorporate a retro-California-beachy-yet-modern vibe all at the same time and the natural texture plays well into the current bohemian craze. Here are some of my favorite cane furniture pieces at various price points.
It’s always difficult to explain exactly what High Point Market is to someone who’s never been. It’s equal parts product sourcing, inspiration gathering, education, networking, and celebrating. It’s the global design world coming together all at once and sharing the hottest products and trends. It’s walking miles and miles in your most fashionable outfits. It’s twelve hour days for sometimes up to six days in a row. And yet, it’s so magical and awe-inspiring at the same time. I feel lucky to live within driving distance, so I absolutely never miss it, and I’ve even created a guide (The Cool Girl’s Guide to High Point Market) to help others navigate the chaos and overwhelm. This spring Market was my 10th time attending and it was one of the best! Here are some of the products and collaborations I’m excited about.
Selamat x William Morris Co
You may be familiar with the quote “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” This was said by William Morris, a British artist who valued simplicity, craftsmanship, and sustainable home decor, heavily inspired by flora and fauna and who founded Morris & Co. design firm in 1861. Selamat has now reimagined a capsule collection of 20 iconic Morris & Co. patterns as carved furniture, lighting, wall decor and decorative accessories. It is stunning.
CR Laine Recliners
Recliners are tough. They generally just don’t look that nice. And yet, people love them and they are so comfortable. Well I’m super excited that CR Laine has introduced several recliners this season, for the very first time. I would happily include them in my design projects.
Four Hands Leather and Wood Chair
Whoa. This baby is a stunner. I love the combination of wood and leather.
I love this little side table. It also comes as a rectangle and there is a larger cocktail table version. In person it looks like a giant piece of ice. Very cool ;)
Everyone knows I love a bar cart. These two beauties caught my eye. I love the mid-century vibe if the cart on the left from Julian Chichester. The gorgeous bar on the right is handmade in Connecticut by my dear friends at Dunes & Duchess. Love it in red, but they can do lots of other colors too.
The Charlotte Design Scene is Hot!
There are so many great collaborations happening with Charlotte artists and designers I just had to share. I love seeing local talent on the national stage!
